Kids Create: Developing Musical Understanding through Creative Activities
JAY BROEKER
Come and work with this exceptional and eclectic educator who will inspire us with his breadth and depth of knowledge about children and their musical growth. Music Education encourages students to create their own music. The resulting compositions or improvisations are highly sophisticated forms of “knowing in action” that provide ideal opportunities for gauging the richness or depth of a student’s musical understanding. This workshop provides models of activities used to elicit students’ creative responses as well as procedures that can be used by students and the teacher to help articulate and further develop their own understanding.
Jay is also an “Arranger Extraordinaire”.
This workshop is co sponsored with our good friends at CT AOSA.

OAKE and MENC
Uh-Oh! Both of these wonderful conferences are planned for the same weekend.
OAKE
OAKE will be in Washington, DC, where we will celebrate
Kodaly in the Capital: A Musical Legacy.
We are delighted that OAKE will be in our neighborhood. They will be asking for our help in various capacities and would appreciate anything that anyone is willing and able to do. This should be a great conference. See you there!
MENC
MENC will be in Providence, Rhode Island. Detailed information can be obtained at www.menc-eastern.org.
Thursday through Saturday, April 2 – April 4, 2009
64th CMEA IN-SERVICE CONFERENCE

Do consider submitting a proposal for a session. Perhaps it could be something that you already presented to KESNE back in January at our Sharing Session! The deadline for submitting is September 1, 2008. Applications are online or in CMEA News.
Good Luck! See you there.
